As a teenager I had considered there must be a creator. Life on Earth was far too intricate and complex to have evolved out of some cosmic accident.
By my early 20's I had come to the conclusion that if there was a creator He was not interested in us anymore. There was no tangible evidence of His existence in any churches or other religious systems I had looked into. I had some knowledge of the Bible, and the types of miracles described there didn't seem to be happening anymore.
Then I met someone in Townsville (through my job at that time) who told me that the Bible foretold some cataclysmic world events and the imminent return of Jesus (most likely in my lifetime). He also said that in the church he was part of, healing miracles were common, people were receiving the Holy Spirit with Biblical evidence (eg 'speaking in tongues') and lives were being transformed for the better.
I was curious and after several invitations my wife and I finally attended the Revival Fellowship church. At that first meeting I was shown the scriptural directive to be baptized by full immersion in water (Rom 6:3-5, Col 2:12, Acts 2:38). My wife and I realized we had to make a choice; whether to walk away and do nothing or act on the directive we had been shown in the Bible and just maybe get to know our creator.
We made the decision to follow Jesus' example and were both baptized that day. I felt as though I had embarked on a journey that would lead to God.
Two nights later I witnessed my wife receive the Holy Spirit. She spoke out in 'tongues' (Mark 16:17; Acts 2:4; Acts 10:45, 46; Acts 19:6) and received a joy and understanding of God and the Bible that was beyond explanation.
At the next Sunday meeting I went forward for prayer and had the same life changing experience as my wife. In an instant I knew God and realized that God knew me and had sent His son, Jesus, to die for me.
I now have a personal relationship with God through the Holy Spirit which is His constant presence within me. I have experienced His healing power and influence on my life and know that I now play a part in God's great plan in this life and for eternity.
